Rodolphus Kent was born Jul 4, 1803, in Morristown, NJ. His father was Rodolphus Kent, and his mother was Mary Tuthill of Morristown, NJ . He was a businessman and eventually settled in Gwynedd, PA. His first wife was Sarah Deily, Jun 11, 1813 – Oct 3, 1840. With his first wife, he had a daughter, Mary Tuthill Kent, and two sons, Jacob Ford Kent and John Vaness Kent. Jacob was appointed to the US Military Academy Jul 1, 1856, and graduated in 1861. Jacob’s Cullum number is 1918.
Rodolphus wanted to serve and eventually, at age 58, was appointed to Gen Lockwood’s staff as Captain of the Commissary on Aug 3, 1861. After 4 years of service, Rodolphus mustered out as a Major.Rodolphus died Aug 22, 1881, and is buried in Christ Church Burial Ground in Philadelphia, PA.
